The Jacksonville Urban – Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (JUMPO) lies completely within Onslow County, North Carolina. Onslow County covers 767 square miles in the southeastern coastal plain of North Carolina, approximately 120 miles east of Raleigh, and 50 miles north of Wilmington. The City of Jacksonville is the county seat, as well, as the Lead Planning Agency for JUMPO.

Our community is home to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Marine Corps Air Station New River, Camp Geiger and Camp Johnson. Camp Lejeune, which was created in 1941, is comprised of approximately 156,000 acres, employing more than 43,000 marines and sailors.

Our area boasts over 30 miles of beautiful beaches, rivers and ocean and is home to diverse wildlife-filled forests. The scenic 40 mile long New River is the only large river in the continental United States with headwaters and estuary in the same county, making it truly unique to this area.
